OPERATE SCISSOR LIFT

Course Overview

This course is a requirement under the Workplace Safety and Health (Operation of Cranes) Regulations for anyone responsible for carrying out lifting operations involving a Lifting Machine. It’s designed to ensure that workers are well-equipped to safely operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs), such as Scissor Lifts, in a variety of work environments.


Course Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Choose the right MEWP for the task at hand, including conducting a risk assessment to ensure the job is performed safely.
  • Understand and apply the safety requirements set by the Workplace Safety and Health Act and the Code of Practice for Working Safely at Height related to MEWPs.
  • Conduct pre-start inspections to ensure the equipment is safe and ready for use.
  • Recognize the factors that affect the stability of the MEWP during operation.
  • Identify common hazards that can arise while traveling, setting up, operating, and parking the MEWP, and implement control measures to mitigate those risks.
  • Perform workplace inspections to ensure the environment is safe for MEWP operation.
  • Understand the function of all MEWP controls, including emergency controls and procedures.
  • Select and use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) based on the risk assessment, worksite, and environment, following the manufacturer’s guidelines.
  • Operate the MEWP safely and confidently.

This course is designed for workers who are required to use and operate MEWPs (such as Scissors Lifts) as part of their daily tasks. It provides essential training to create a safer work environment for anyone working at height.

    • Passing Score: 80%
  • Practical Assessment:

    • Duration: 30 minutes
    • Evaluation: Competent/Not Yet Competent
