APPLY WORKPLACE SAFETY AND HEALTH IN CONSTRUCTION SITES

Course Objectives

By the end of this programme, you will:

  • Understand your roles and responsibilities on a construction site.
  • Learn how to work safely and follow proper procedures.
  • Apply risk control measures for working at height and know how to respond to fire emergencies.

Who Can Join?

This course is open to those who meet the following requirements:

  • You’re 18 years or older.
  • You’re employed as a manual laborer in construction or engineering worksites.
  • You’re medically fit to perform construction work.
  • You can understand and communicate in English at a basic level (similar to Employability Skills level 2).
  • You’re comfortable working with numbers at the same proficiency level.
  • You have good organizational skills and can follow both written and spoken instructions.

What You’ll Learn

Here’s an overview of what we’ll cover in this course:

1. Understanding Your Role on a Construction Site

  • Get familiar with your rights and responsibilities under the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) laws.
  • Learn about the Employment Act and Workplace Injury Compensation Act, and how they protect you.

2. Staying Safe on the Job

  • Recognize safety signs and potential hazards on construction sites.
  • Learn how to manage risks and follow safe work practices, including the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system.
  • Understand the importance of wearing the right personal protective equipment (PPE).

3. Working Safely at Heights

  • Identify risks and hazards related to working at heights.
  • Learn how to check and use Work-at-Height (WAH) equipment and safety devices.
  • Master safe practices for climbing and moving across scaffolding, using vertical and horizontal lifelines, and ensuring 100% tie-off at all times.

4. Responding to Fire Emergencies

  • Know the proper steps to take during a fire evacuation.
  • Understand which fire extinguisher to use for different types of fires.
  • Practice the techniques to safely and effectively extinguish a fire.

Assessments

To successfully complete the course, participants will need to pass the following assessments:

  • Written Assessment: A 1-hour test consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). A minimum score of 60% is required to pass.
  • Practical Assessment: A 1-hour hands-on assessment where participants will be evaluated on a Competent/Not Yet Competent basis.

Both assessments are designed to ensure you’ve gained the knowledge and skills to perform your role safely and effectively.

  2. You agree to use the scaffolding responsibly, follow all rules and regulations, and ensure your actions do not put others at risk.
  3. You confirm that you will not use the scaffolding or join activities if you are under the influence of any substances that might affect your judgment or if you have a medical condition, such as back injuries, that may add risk. You will let LCPL know about any such condition in advance.

For courses with online assessment

  1. Under the Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) Council guidelines, LearnCollab will capture photos during the online assessment process as a mandatory compliance measure.
  2. By providing your consent, you agree to the capture of photos for identity verification, compliance, and audit purposes. These photos will only be used as required by LearnCollab and affiliated entities, including WSH and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).
  3. You acknowledge and consent to the upload of your training records, including test results, to the Training Record System (TRS) using your NRIC or FIN number.
